TSP Market Summary: Week of January 24, 2016

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • S&P 500 swung dramatically from 1880 to 1812 low, then recovered 5% to close at 1906
  • C Fund remains down 6.7% for the year despite week's strong finish
  • TSP allocations unchanged until market shows additional sustained strength

For a holiday shortened week, the market sure was volatile (again), but at least it finished on a high note. The S&P 500 started the week at 1880 and then promptly dropped to a low of 1812 by noon on Wednesday. It then turned around and moved about 5% off that low, closing the week at 1906. However, the S&P 500 is still down 6.7% for the year and until we see some additional strength, allocations remain the same.
