TSP Market Summary: Week of April 10, 2016

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • S&P 500 down 1% for week, trading sideways in same range since November 2014
  • C Fund (S&P 500) has been range-bound between 1830-2130 for past 18 months
  • Balanced equity approach maintained across C/S/I funds awaiting market breakout

The S&P 500 closed down a little over 1 percent for the week closing at 2047.60. Looking back, the S&P 500 first closed above that 2047 level in mid-November 2014. Since then (18 months), the S&P 500 has been stuck in a 300 point range between 1830 and 2130. It sure would be nice to see a breakout to the upside but for now we’ll remain 50 percent in equity funds (C/S/I), poised to react in either direction.
