TSP Market Summary: Week of August 07, 2016

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • S&P 500 hit new record highs, benefiting C Fund investors with steady 'slow and steady' gains
  • Strong jobs report on Friday provided market momentum, supporting continued equity allocation
  • Strategy review planned for mid-month with potential for tactical adjustments if needed

The market had another nice week of consolidation. Buoyed by Friday’s jobs report, the S&P 500 closed the week at 2182 for a new high. It’s that “slow and steady wins the race” as the S&P 500 tacked on 9 more points. If that continues over the next two weeks, the news media will be all over that 2200 headline. Since we’re currently 90 percent in equities (C/S/I), we’ll stay the course and hold off on any transactions until next week (mid-month), if needed.
