TSP Market Summary: Week of October 01, 2016

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • Markets finished Q3 on positive note despite Thursday selloff, with Friday surge saving the week
  • S&P 500 has been range-bound around 2168 level since July, indicating market indecision
  • Breaking above current trading range could signal next leg up for C Fund performance

After coming under pressure on Thursday, the markets surged back on Friday with the S&P 500 closing the week with a slight gain at 2168. It’s always nice to finish up a quarter on a positive note. That said, we’ve been bouncing around this 2168 level since mid-July. While no one can predict the future, it sure would be nice to see the markets break out of this “base building” phase and take another step up from here over the remainder of the year. For now, allocations remain the same.
