TSP Market Summary: Week of April 01, 2017

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • First quarter closed strong with 5.07% YTD gains despite March consolidation period
  • Portfolio remains fully invested in stock funds (C/S/I) showing confidence in equities
  • Two potential reallocation dates scheduled in April based on market conditions

All I can say about Friday is that the markets closed out the first quarter with some nice gains, and I’d sure like to see another three in a row. The S&P 500 ended the week at 2362, but what was slightly unusual was that the highest close for the month, and the year, was on March 1. Again, the markets deserve a little “March Breather” to consolidate after those first two months of gains. As such, we remain 100 percent in equities (C/S/I) and expect reallocations the weekends of 8 and 23 April if warranted. YTD % thru 31 Mar 2017: 5.07%
