TSP Market Summary: Week of August 19, 2017

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • Stock market pulled back from record highs with S&P 500 staying below key technical level
  • Bond fund (F fund) performed well, hitting new highs as stocks declined
  • Holding current allocations through upcoming economic data and solar eclipse timing

The S&P 500 finished the week at 2425, down 55 points from it\'s record closing on Monday, August 7. The S&P 500 stayed below its 50 day moving average again, however we did continue to see improvement in bonds with the F fund hitting a new high. With a great earnings season coming to an end, as well as durable goods and housing reports next week, we are recommending no allocation changes. This will save our second reallocation of the month until after the solar eclipse if needed.
