TSP Market Summary: Week of September 02, 2017

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • S&P 500 continues strong September rally, showing resilience against mixed economic data
  • Both TSP F fund (bonds) and C fund (large-cap stocks) reached new record highs this week
  • Portfolio changes may come next week as managers monitor whether current momentum continues

The S&P 500 is on a 6 day winning streak, closing Friday at 2476.55. Even Friday’s weaker job’s report couldn’t damper a strong September start, as we are seeing not only solid U.S. GDP economic growth but global bullishness. For the TSP, the “F” fund made a new high on Thursday, followed by the “C” fund making a new high on Friday. Since we’re already 100 percent invested (80% equity/20% bond), we’re going to wait on our first monthly allocation change until next week if needed. In the meantime, enjoy your long Labor Day weekend!!
