TSP Market Summary: Week of September 23, 2017

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • S&P 500 and TSP equity funds (C/S/I) all reached new record highs on Wednesday
  • Markets showed healthy consolidation pattern with minimal volatility throughout the week
  • Strong upward trend continues to support equity fund positioning over bonds

To sum things up, I’d call this a nice “consolidation week” for the markets. On Monday through Wednesday, the S&P 500 creeped forward while making new records, but then fell back slightly to finish the week at 2502, or 2 points higher than last Friday. Similar to the S&P 500, all three TSP equity funds (C/S/I) posted new highs also on Wednesday. Since the “trend is our friend”, we recommend staying 100 percent invested in those three equity funds.
