TSP Market Summary: Week of September 30, 2017

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • Dow and S&P 500 achieved eighth consecutive quarter of gains, first time since 1997
  • TSP C and S funds hit new highs as markets broke out of recent consolidation phase
  • Strong momentum entering Q4 2017 with potential for ninth straight winning quarter

What a nice way to finish out the quarter!! Both the Dow and the S&P 500 posted their eighth straight quarter of gains for the first time since 1997. With the S&P 500 recording a closing high of 2519 on Friday, it looks as if we’ve broken out of that consolidation phase I talked about last week. With the C and S funds also making new highs this week, we’ll continue to stay 100 percent invested in the C/S/I equity funds as we enter the fourth quarter of 2017. While no one can predict the future, it sure would be grand to see “nine up quarters in a row”!
