TSP Market Summary: Week of July 20, 2020

By Roy Weisert, PhD, CFP

Key Takeaways

  • S&P 500 crossed 3233 threshold at 3251, triggering predicted reallocation alert
  • Tech stocks (C Fund) surged while small caps (S Fund) declined, showing market divergence
  • Trend-following approach guides TSP allocation adjustments based on momentum shifts

Over the weekend I mentioned that “if we do have a S&P close of 3233 or higher this week, expect an intraweek reallocation alert….”. Well here it is Monday afternoon and the S&P 500 closed at 3251. Mega-Tech came charging back after a week’s pause with the NASDAQ-100 closing up 2.88 percent just today. Conversely, the Russell 2000 Small Cap Index was down 0.26 percent today. Given those numbers and “Letting the trend be our friend”, we’re recommending the following reallocation.
